From Surah Aal-Imran (3:123) — 17 Ramadan, 2 AH

وَلَقَدْ نَصَرَكُمُ اللَّهُ بِبَدْرٍ وَأَنتُمْ أَذِلَّةٌ ۖ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ

"And Allah had certainly given you victory at Badr while you were weak. So fear Allah that you may be grateful."

Allah does not describe them as strong. He describes them as أَذِلَّة — few, ill-equipped, outnumbered more than three to one. The victory is named before the weakness is named, so that no one mistakes where it came from.

This piece holds that moment before it happened. Seen from high on the valley rim, the ground of Badr opens below: a thousand on one side, three hundred and thirteen on the other, and a stretch of empty sand between them that neither has crossed yet. No faces, no swords, no clash — only two formations, their shadows, and a land far larger than both.

At the witness's feet lies his own drawn survey of the valley — the terrain, the wells, the numbers, recorded by hand as he watched. It is what turns a painting into a record.

Rendered in ink and earth pigment on an aged parchment ground, in the muted warmth Athar is known for. The verse is verified against the muṣḥaf before printing — as every Athar piece is.

This piece is built from that ground. The terrain, the positions and the water are drawn from the sirah rather than imagined, and the verse set across it is the one revealed about that day.

A small team. Ahmad leads it — he verifies every verse himself and answers support@atharn.com personally, not a ticket queue. A calligrapher sets the Arabic, and one of us stays on fulfilment so no order sits waiting. Every order ships tracked.

Is this design sold anywhere else?

No. Every Atharn design is our own work, made for Atharn and sold only here — not on Etsy, not Amazon, not in another store's catalogue. If we ever license or resell one of our designs elsewhere, we'll refund you in full.

How do you know the Arabic is correct?

The calligraphy is often set by a calligrapher, then verified against the Mushaf by Ahmad, a khatib, before anything prints. The verse, its reference and its context come printed on a card in your box.

Will it look like the photographs?

Gallery-grade giclée on artist canvas, in a solid wood frame. If what arrives doesn't match what you saw, send us a photo — reprint or refund, your choice.

What if I choose the wrong size?

We swap it, free, and you don't pay return shipping. We also produce larger than 60 × 90 cm — tell us the wall and we'll quote you.

Will customs be charged on top?

Not in the United States, the United Kingdom or the Gulf — there the price you see is the price you pay. Elsewhere, your country may apply duties we don't control, so check your local rules before ordering.

How long until it's on my wall?
